(Washington, DC)  —  DC Council Chairman Kwame Brown wants to end the practice where DC Police arrest people for driving with expired license plates.  Brown says he wants to either change the law, or come up with a new policy for police officers so people aren’t arrested for something most other states only issue a ticket for.  The department says officers are told to give a 30-day grace period to drivers.  After that, they’re supposed to use their discretion when it comes to arresting anyone.  At least 100 people are reportedly arrested every year for driving with expired tags.
