(Undated)  —  Making your summer travel plans should include making time to check your vehicle’s tires.  A recent survey by the Rubber Manufacturers Association shows only 15-percent of drivers properly check their tire pressure each month.  RMA executive Dan Zielinski says this simple check can mean savings of nine-cents per gallon of gasoline at a time when gas prices are high.  Monthly tire pressure checks will also help your tires last longer and decrease your risk for accidents.

Zielinski says the correct tire inflation pressure is the one recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, not the one printed on the side of your tires.  It’s also important to check tire pressure when your vehicle hasn’t been driven for a few hours.  Avoiding fast starts and stops and things like potholes are good ways to help keep your tires in good condition.
