Northern Virginia Democrats Del. Kaye Kory and Sen. Scott Surovel have put forth bill in the Virginia House of Delegates that would penalize drivers who drive slow in the left lane.

This bill would fine any driver who as described as “going grossly under the speed limit in the left lane.”

Del. Kory and Senator Surovel said that driving slowly in the left land infuriates faster drivers and leads to dangerous driving and road rage; and this bill will prevent a log if not all of this.

While slow-moving drivers are supposed to stay to the right, there is no penalty for violating the rule in Virginia.

Violating this rule would cost a driver $250.

Maryland law is similar to Virginia’s current law, with a ban on driving slowly in the left lane that does not carry a specific penalty. Police can pull drivers over for it though to look for other violations.
