Once every four years, the D.C. Police Department is faced with one of their biggest tasks – The Presidential Inauguration; the safety of the city and the safety of it’s citizens.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Nesham has announced that he is bringing in well over 3,000 more police officers to assist on that big day.

The start of a new year means one big thing to D.C. law enforcement: Inauguration Day is fast approaching. Multiple agencies are putting the final touches on the security plan that has been one year in the making.

The Chief said that there are currently no active threats against the city or the Inauguration Festivities, but that could change at any moment.

The Inauguration is expecting to bring in 1,000,000 people to the city and expecting to have at least 800,000 on the National Mall for the Ceremony.

The day after the Inauguration there is a March on Washington, and Chief Newsham has said that those additional officers will continue on duty to ensure that the Marchers have a Peaceful Protest.

“We will be ready in case something happens and we’ll be ready for any amount of people that show up.”
