With several parades and various events celebrating Independence Day in and around the District, it may be difficult to get around town.
- In D.C., parking restrictions are only enforced along the parade route on Constitution Avenue and near Nationals Park. No reversible lanes.
- Metrorail is open from 7 a.m. to midnight. Around 2 p.m., trains will gradually increase in frequency to near rush-hour service, which will continue after the National Mall fireworks. There is no track work. The Smithsonian station will be open all day, and the Mall entrance will become entrance-only after 9:30 p.m.
- Capital Bikeshare has a bike corral at Constitution Avenue, in Northwest, at 10th Street from 3 p.m. until one hour after the fireworks are over.
- HOV restrictions are lifted in Northern Virginia.
- VRE has Firecracker Special tickets on the Fredericksburg and Manassas Lines to and from downtown D.C., but they must be bought by 9 a.m. on July 4.
- MARC‘s Penn Line is on a Saturday schedule; there’s no service on the Brunswick/Camden Lines.
- Metrobus runs on a Saturday schedule with detours around the National Mall. Holiday events affect four DC Circulator routes, and DC Streetcar operates regular weekday service. MetroAccess has regular service hours.
- Fairfax Connector runs on a Sunday schedule.
- Montgomery County Ride On is on a Saturday schedule.
- Alexandria’s DASH operates on a Sunday schedule. The free King Street Trolley runs from 10 a.m. — 10:15 p.m.
- The only MTA Commuter Bus in operation is Bus Route 201, which is on a weekend/holiday schedule.
- There is no service on The Bus in Prince George’s County, Loudoun County bus or PRTC bus.
- Washington officials are offering free cab rides to discourage people from getting behind the wheel after drinking. Between 10 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday, people who are 21 and older can call 800-200-8294 to request a free ride. The SoberRide Program is being provided by the Washington Regional Alcohol Program. Officials say rides will be offered in Washington and several cities and counties in Virginia and Maryland. The SoberRide operator will relay the person’s request to participating cab companies.
