A woman is facing charges after police say she abandoned a 10-month-old in a stroller along a busy District of Columbia street.
Police say 24-year-old Latonya Cooper was charged with second-degree cruelty to a child after she left the baby in a stroller in front of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on E Street northwest on Tuesday.
Authorities say the baby was taken to a hospital and is in good health.
Court documents say a woman who saw the baby left unattended flagged down a nearby U.S. marshal, who later found Cooper two blocks away.
Police spokesman Officer Paul Metcalf says Cooper’s relationship to the baby is unknown.
