Two new D.C. Council members with close ties to the mayor will be sworn into office Thursday.
Voters elected new council members to fill the Ward 4 seat left vacant by the election of Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Ward 8 seat left vacant by the death of longtime city leader Marion Barry.
Brandon Todd, a former aide to Ms. Bowser who earned her backing, will be sworn in as the Ward 4 council member. He won his election with 42 percent of the 10,755 votes cast.
LaRuby May, who also worked on Ms. Bowser’s mayoral campaign, won the Ward 8 seat by a much slimmer margin. Ms. May garnered 1,955 votes, just 79 more ballots than her closest opponent, former school board member Trayon White.
Swearing-in ceremonies for the two new members will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the John A. Wilson Building.
