Prince George’s County Public Schools are planning significant changes to their transportation system next fall, which could involve altering school start and end times and revising thousands of bus routes. The initiative aims to address long-standing issues with school bus reliability, where students have faced delays and absences of buses.

Efforts to enhance service include updating the bus tracking app for better location information and allowing parents to opt out of bus transportation. Additionally, the district is evaluating the necessity of certain bus stops within walk zones and considering consolidating stops, potentially extending walking distances for students.

While most schools will see minimal schedule adjustments, about 10% could experience shifts ranging from 16 minutes to an hour. Parents are encouraged to engage in the process through nine informational sessions starting April 15, although a final decision timeline has not been set.
