The first daughter is growing up fast. 17-year-old Malia Obama is graduating high school today in Washington D.C.
The President and First Lady wrote a letter that will be given to Ali's family by White House Senior Advisor, Valerie Jarrett.
The 17-year-old will not head directly to the university in Cambridge, Massachusetts after graduating from Sidwell Friends this spring, she “will take a gap year before beginning school,” reads the statement from the East Wing. Instead, she will enroll in the fall of 2017.
However, the 17-year-old is taking a year off before she attends the Ivy League university.
Malia Obama, 17, who is likely in the throes of deciding where to attend college next year, joined President Barack Obama on a cross-country presidential trip, according to PEOPLE magazine.
