According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Illinois has lost more people than any other state during the course of the year.

A coalition of civil rights groups urge the Census Bureau to change its policy of how counting prisoners. In a letter they say dislocating the prisoners is discriminatory and distorts democracy.

Washington, D.C.– Demographers sifting through new population counts released on Thursday by the Census Bureau say the data bring a pattern into sharper focus: Young Americans are far less white than older generations, a shift that demographers say creates a culture gap with far-reaching political and social consequences.
