In a letter posted on their website, the Office of the Episcopal Pastor of the From the Heart Church Ministries announced the passing of their founder, Rev. Dr. John Cherry, on February 16, 2019, from complications associated with recent exploratory surgery.

As word spread, the DMV faith-based community took to social media to express their love and sadness. Among those were Maryland politician and pastor, C. Anthony Muse. On his Facebook page, he posted,

“I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing into Heaven of Rev. Dr. John Cherry, founder, and Episcopal Pastor of From the Heart Church Ministries. In my earlier years in ministry, he mentored me and prayed for me. I cherish the weekends we spent at His house eating and talking. He was a father to many and his labor is not in vain. Join me in praying for his church and family. Heaven rejoices but yes we are sad, but not without hope.” We share his sentiment.

Currently, From the Heart Church Ministries is pastored by his son, Rev. John Cherry II, pictured above with his father (Rev. John A. Cherry), his mother (Rev. Diane Cherry), and his wife (Rev. LaWanda Cherry). According to the church’s statement, the Memorial Service for Dr. John A. Cherry will be held at From the Heart Church Ministries, Inc.®in Suitland, Maryland. The date is forthcoming. All condolences and questions can be directed to ooep@fthcm.org.
