The Equal Justice Initiative, a legal rights organization in Montgomery, Alabama, announced plans to honor victims of lynchings with a memorial. It’s slated to be the largest structure built to canonize victims of racial lynchings. A museum will also go alongside the memorial to trace the country’s history from slavery to present day. “Our goal isn’t to be divisive,” said Bryan Stevenson, director of the Equal Justice Initiative.“Our goal is just to get people to confront the truth of our past with some more courage.” The structure is slated to open in April 2017. 60,000 Seek Disaster Aid In Louisiana’s Torrential Flooding, 11 Confirmed Dead

Gov. John Bel Edwards confirmed 60,000 people have signed up for disaster aid relief through FEMA. Baltimore Police Union VP Suspended After Exposed Email Leaks, Calling Protesters ‘Thugs’

Lt. Victor Gearhart, first vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3, used his work email account to criticize protesters at the Maryland Fraternal Order of Police conference. The email was sent to the entire police department and included the lines, “expect more bad behavior from the THUGS OF BALTIMORE,” and “On the bright side maybe they will stop killing each other while they are protesting us.” Police Commissioner Kevin Davis suspended Gearhart on Monday after the comments surfaced. Read More.

The movie follows the women’s trajectory as they crunch numbers – calculating the launch of astronaut John Glenn into space.
