VIA THE WASHINGTON POST:

A 46-year-old District woman has been charged with using slain principal Brian Betts’s credit cards over the past several days and authorities have issued an arrest warrant charging a second person with Betts’s murder, police and law enforcement sources said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said the man charged in the slaying is well-known to the woman in custody.

The woman in custody has not been named, but she is charged with two counts of credit card misuse, according to Sgt. C. Thomas Jordan, a Montgomery police spokesman.

Betts was found shot to death in his home in Silver Spring on April 15. He was the principal of Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson in the District.

Search warrants were served Monday morning at a residence in the 5300 block of 5th Street Northwest, police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said, and in the 4300 block of 3rd Street Southeast.

The woman was arrested during the search of the 5th Street residence, Baur said.

“This is still a fluid situation,” Baur said, “and the investigation is continuing.”
