The driver of a van accused of causing an accident in SE Washington Monday that claimed the life of a 37-year old woman and sent 4 children to hospitals in critical condition has a long record of alleged driving violations, a search of Maryland court records shows.
34-year-old Agene Jones, who has no fixed address according to police, is now charged with involuntary manslaughter after the accident.
Jones’ record includes 3 citations since August of 2009 for driving without a license or driving with a suspended license from another state, according to court records. Additional charges include an alleged DUI and driving without insurance and registration.
Jones in awaiting trial scheduled for April 28th in Prince George’s County on some of the outstanding charges.
According to witnesses, Jones was the driver of a white van that was wildly speeding before it crossed the yellow line to avoid slower traffic and hit a Toyota Camry head-on at the intersection of Alabama Ave. and 36th St. SE at 7:30 Monday night.
The car was carrying a woman and 4 children aged 2 to 10.
The Camry’s driver, 37-year-old Mary Elizabeth Wimbush of SE Washington was killed. All the children were evacuated from the scene in critical condition. One, a 2-year-old girl was ejected from the car by the force of the collision.
