(Washington, DC)  —  Federal officials have closed the case on a fatal shooting involving U.S. Park Police officers DC’s Trinidad neighborhood.  According to the U.S. Justice Department, there is insufficient evidence to pursue federal criminal civil rights charges against the detectives involved in the fatal shooting of Trey Joyner.  Joyner was shot and killed by plainclothes officers who were investigating a tip about a person with a gun.  The federal investigation into the June 2009 shooting reviewed all evidence generated by the Washington Field Office of the FBI, including witness statements, crime scene evidence, ballistics and medical reports.  After review, federal prosecutors and FBI agents determined that the evidence was insufficient to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers who fired at Joyner acted willfully or with specific intent and the investigation has been closed without prosecution.
