Delayed Gratification Builds Wealth
Delaying gratification can make you wealthy. Oh yes, it can.
Today’s message is taken from Dr. Willie Jolley’s book, Rich Is Good, Wealthy Is Better.
One of the greatest predictors of wealth is the ability to delay gratification.
Most people make financial decisions based on what they want right now. But wealthy people think differently. They do not ask, “What do I want right now? What do I have to have right now?” They ask, “What do I want my life to look like five years from now, ten years from now? And what am I willing to forgo today to reach bigger goals and dreams tomorrow?”
Every financial decision has a future. Let that be said again. Every financial decision has a future.
Every dollar is either a building block or a crumbling block, because you are either building your tomorrow or borrowing from your tomorrow.
The impulse to buy, the daily splurge, it all adds up. And when all your money is spent today, the big wins of tomorrow are forfeited.
Patience is not just a virtue. No, patience is profitable.
Wealthy people live below their means today so they can eventually live above their dreams later.
So before swiping that card, pause and ask, “Is this building the future or borrowing from the future?” It will make a difference.
