The Group Fire on Young Men Returning to The Church
The Group Fire on Young Men Returning to The Church: “We’re Still Here” | #SOP2025

Live from the 17th Annual Spirit of Praise, Cheryl Jackson caught up with the dynamic gospel ensemble, The Group Fire. The energy was high at Reid Temple A.M.E. Church as the group shared insights into their unique sound and powerful mission before taking the stage.
Often compared to iconic groups, The Group Fire has a style that is all their own. Their sound masterfully blends traditional quartet harmonies with contemporary R&B influences, creating an experience that is both fresh and deeply rooted in faith. When you see The Group Fire, they promise you’ll “expect church” and a good time, complete with a high-energy stage show that lifts up the name of Jesus. The group gave a special thank you to their producer and songwriter, Steve Cooper, for molding them into the artists they are today.
Addressing the topic of young people and the church, The Group Fire delivered a passionate message. “We’re still here,” one member declared, positioning the group as a visible representation for young Black men in faith. They emphasized that both the church and gospel music are far from dying. Their core message is to encourage everyone, especially in these times, to find a church home. “It’s important that you get into the church, so stay in church,” they urged. “And if you don’t have a church home, find one.”
Suited up and ready to minister, The Group Fire was eager to have church with the Spirit of Praise audience, bringing their signature performance and an unwavering message of faith and community to the celebration.
