According to sources, the Washington Wizards are sending Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and the No. 40 pick in the 2025 NBA draft in exchange for CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, and a future second-round pick.

For the Wizards, acquiring McCollum brings a proven scorer and veteran leadership to a team in transition. McCollum, who averaged 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists last season, will provide a steady hand in the backcourt. However, could the guard be a buyout candidate in the future. Olynyk, a versatile big man, adds depth to Washington’s frontcourt after averaging 10.7 points and 5.9 rebounds in limited action last season.

On the other side, the Pelicans are betting on youth and potential. Poole, who led the Wizards in scoring last season with 20.5 points per game, brings dynamic offensive firepower to New Orleans. His ability to create his own shot and facilitate will complement the Pelicans’ core. Saddiq Bey, despite missing last season due to a torn ACL, offers promise as a versatile forward with a strong two-way game. The No. 40 pick also allows New Orleans to add another young talent to their roster.

This trade signals a clear direction for both franchises. The Wizards appear focused on building around experienced players to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference, while the Pelicans are doubling down on their youth movement, aiming to build a sustainable contender in the West.
