Learn more about Jason Nelson:

With over 100 million digital streams to his credit, Jason Nelson has become one of gospel music’s most popular artists over the last decade with radio hits such as “Forever,” “Shifting the Atmosphere,” “Residue,” and “I Am.”

A Baltimore, MD native, Nelson grew up singing and playing the bass in his father’s church. He went professional when he started doing background vocals for gospel artists such as Donald Lawrence and Tye Tribbett in the early 2000s.  He then financed and released his first solo album, I Shall Live, in 2005 as an independent artist. It started a good industry buzz about his vocal and songwriting skills and eventually led to him signing with Verity Records (now RCA Inspirational) in 2012.

During his tenure there, Nelson enjoyed massive radio success with songs such as “Shifting the Atmosphere,” “Nothing Without You,” “I Am,” and “Forever.” His album, Shifting the Atmosphere, earned him a Stellar Gospel Music Award for Praise and Worship CD of the Year (2013). He’s also written songs that have been recorded by Marvin Sapp, L. Spenser Smith, and his brother, Jonathan Nelson.

Nelson has also been a guest vocalist on several projects. He’s been a featured performer on recordings by Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, Casey J, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, Livre’, William McDowell, and Isaac Carree.

In 2021, Nelson and his wife, Tonya, launched Jaelyn Song Music and partnered with Tyscot Records and FairTrade Services to release his first album in three years, Close, which featured the Billboard No. 1 hit, “Residue” and the Top Ten cut, “All I Need.” It won two Stellar Gospel Music Award nominations and earned him a performance slot on the 37th annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards broadcast. In summer 2024, Nelson will release a new live album, You Belong, that will feature cameos from Melvin Crispell III, Zacardi Cortez, and Madison Ryann Ward.

Despite his musical achievements, Nelson’s first loves are church and family. He is the pastor of The Tab (aka The Tabernacle), a church in Windsor Mill, Maryland. He and his wife, Tonya, also have two children, Jaelyn Paris, and Jason Christopher.
