A company called “Move.org” did a study on the cost of living in the 75 largest cities in the country to see which city cost the most to live in and which city cost the least to live in .
When it was all said and done with this Move.org study, it was proven that Washington, D.C. came in as the 7th most expensive city to live in in the country.
Washington, D.C. residents have average monthly expenses of $3,055.03. That is slightly less expensive than Jersey City, New Jersey which came in as No. 6, spending $3,099.50 a month, but did come in slightly lower than Los Angeles, which ranks the 8th most expensive city to live in, spending $2,899.10 a month.
Those monthly averages break down as follows:
Rent for a one-bedroom apartment
Utilities (electricity, water, etc.)
Internet
Gasoline
Food (groceries plus occasional restaurant meals).
El Paso, Texas, came in as the least expensive, with monthly expenses setting residents back $1,182.96 on average. At the other extreme, the city by the bay, San Francisco ranks #1 as the most expensive city to live in.
