UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

How the world and humans came to be is explored and questioned by many people. Where did people come from? According to the book of Genesis, God created people as the highest form of creation made in the image of God, and people are supported by all of God’s creation.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

In the opening chapters of Genesis, we learn that humans occupy a special place in the hierarchy of creation and that they enjoy a unique relationship with God by virtue of their being the work of God’s own hands, created in His own image and likeness. In one sense, humans bear the marks of divinity, for we are directly animated by God’s own breath. But in another sense, we are reminded that humans are but dust taken from the earth, mere clay in the hands of the divine Potter. According to the will of God, we are and remain an odd mixture of dust and divinity. God alone is to be praised as our creator, redeemer, and sustainer. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, help us never to forget that we are the products of Your creative hands. We give praise and thanks to You for the breath and life You have so graciously bestowed upon us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
