Lesson Title: GOD’S PRESERVING LOVE

Adult/Young Adult Topic: TRUE LOVE

Printed Text: John 10:1-15 (NIV)

Key Verse: John 10:14-15 (NIV)

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.

UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

Everyone is looking for a leader who will solve all the problems of the world. Where can we find the leader we seek? Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, is the leader who shows and imparts God’s love to those who follow.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

This lesson contrasts the characteristics of the person who was the shepherd with the person who was not, and also the response of the sheep to the shepherd from the response to one who was not. Jesus makes two “I Am” statements—“I am the gate” and “I am the door”. Yes, Jesus is the boundary between two spaces. As we grow spiritually, we better recognized Jesus’ love and direction in our lives. We do not need someone to tell us that He cares. We have discovered it for ourselves. Because of this close relationship, we are able to discern evil shepherds, leaders who would purposely lead us astray. In all aspects of our lives, Jesus is there for us. That builds our faith. We will learn to depend on Jesus for His love and protection.

PRAYER:

Lord God, You have been our protector and provider. We thank you for never failing us, even though we have failed you on occasion. Finally, we thank you for your Son, Jesus, our Good Shepherd. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
