A Southhaven, Mississippi woman claims that she was assaulted in a local Kroger grocery store all because she asked another shopper how to make a pumpkin pie.

According to WMC News, Nia Jones was doing some last-minute Thanksgiving shopping when she approached a fellow shopper in the baking aisle and asked him about pie-making.

It’s a question. It’s a simple question. ‘Do you know how to make a pie?’ You’re on the baking aisle of Kroger,” she recalled.

Jones said that the man, who was also Black, walked away cursing at them, but then came back and got violent.

He shoved my friend and the other lady into the shelves,” she explained. “And he turned around a sucker punched me.”

Jones added that the stranger punched her in the face and chest three times, knocking her out. To make matters worse: No one, including Kroger employees, stopped to help Jones.

Jones’ mother, Stacey Rochell, told WMC that she cannot believe that people just watched a man attack a woman in the middle of the store and didn’t intervene.

How did they let this happen? If there was already a scene that was created, a commotion created. It was loud. Why didn’t someone address the gentleman at the time?” Rochell asked.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by Kroger, store officials insist that the company is “working with the Southaven Police Department during this ongoing investigation.” Also, police are currently reviewing surveillance video in hopes to identify the attacker.
