Al Roker is not here for the B.S.

The Today show anchor has likely had to sit by and listen to his co-hosts talk a lot of mess over the years. But on Friday, he was over it. He clapped back in regards to the Ryan Lochte controversy of his fabricated story about being robbed at gun-point in Brazil during the Olympics, referred to as #LochteGate.

In a video that’s been circulating on social media, Roker shuts down Billy Bush, who argues that Lochte “embellished” his story.

As a little background: Bush is a new Today show host that came from entertainment news show, Access Hollywood. He was on of the first person Lochte mentioned the incident to. And he’s the nephew of President George H.W. Bush.

“He lied,” Roker begins. “He lied to you. He lied to Matt Lauer. He lied his mom. He left his teammates hanging, while he skedaddled.”

“He embellished,” Bush says.

“No,” says Roker. “He lied. There was no robbery. There was no pull over. There was nothing. Nobody cocked a gun to his head. He lied.”

“OK, calm down,” Bush responds. Bush later says they Lochte and his teammates are a group of “kids” and “good athlete” who don’t need to make an apology.

But in all truth, Roker shouldn’t “calm down”. He’s serving as a voice for many who believe Lochte unabashed privilege as a white man gave him a free-pass to lie.
