New disturbing details have emerged about Micah Johnson, the man accused of fatally shooting five Dallas police officers at what began as a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest on Thursday evening.

In an interview on CNN’s State of The Union, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Johnson was erratic during the Friday morning standoff – he taunted officers by singing, laughing, and scribbling the initials

“RB” in his own blood on the walls of the parking garage where police eventually killed him by detonating a robotic bomb, writes The Huffington Post.

“We are trying to decipher [the messages], but he wrote the letters ‘RB,’” said Brown. “[W]e’re trying to figure out through looking at things in his home what those initials mean, but we haven’t determined that yet.”

The blood on the walls led investigators to believe that Johnson was injured while he made his way up the garage steps.

When investigators searched Johnson’s home, they found journal entries riddled with disjointed messages.

But Brown revealed another troubling item – he believes Johnson possibly had plans for a larger attack, noting he “had been practicing explosive detonations” and possessed enough materials in his personal arsenal “to have devastating effects throughout our city and our North Texas area.”

According to the FBI, Johnson was armed with an SKS semiautomatic rifle and wore ballistic body armor with plates. The SKS is a Soviet-designed military rifle first introduced in 1945, The Washington Post reports.

During a Friday briefing, FBI Director James Comey said Johnson was also armed with a handgun. Officers made two attempts to kill Johnson by detonating the robotic bomb, the first was unsuccessful. According to The Post, FBI officials also found pipes, wiring, BBs, and other bomb-making materials in Johnson’s home.

Johnson was a 25-year-old veteran and served one tour in Afghanistan in 2013. Reports say that he had no criminal history before the shooting on Thursday.

His sister, Nicole Johnson, defended her brother, posting on Facebook that Thursday’s actions were unlike him.

“The news will say what they think but those that knew him know this wasn’t like him,” Nicole Johnson added in a separate post. “This is the biggest loss we’ve had.”

She later deleted the post, but posted a separate message that many believe was anti-police:

But Brown’s message reveals underneath Johnson’s erratic behavior was a disturbed young man in desperate need of a mental evaluation. As the story develops surrounding his narrative, it is troubling to find that clues existed, pointing to his unraveling.
