A Washington police officer has been found guilty of assaulting an employee of a cellphone store whom he accused of making obscene remarks to his girlfriend.

The Washington Post  reports that Ulysses Delaney, a 15-year veteran of the department, was found guilty Monday of simple assault, a misdemeanor, in connection with the Oct. 7 incident.

The 42-year-old officer says his girlfriend told him that her co-worker at the store, Curlee Walker, made threatening remarks to her. Delaney says he confronted Walker and fought him after the employee threatened to get a gun.

Walker was also arrested and charged with making threats. The charges were later dismissed.
Walker says Delaney was the aggressor and punched him in the mouth.

Delaney faces a maximum of 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
