Yesterday, news broke that Wake Forest Professor and Black intellectual Melissa Harris-Perry walked away from her MSNBC given that her show has been preempted for the past few weeks due to campaign coverage.

Perry saying that she is not “a token” or “a mammy,” wrote in an email to her staff, “Our show was taken — without comment or discussion or notice — in the midst of an election season. After four years of building an audience, developing a brand and developing trust with our viewers, we were effectively and utterly silenced.”

Instantly, thousands took to social media to show their support for the academic and anchor, letting her know how much she will be missed:

Many also highlighted what losing this much-needed visibility of the issues that MPH amplified will mean on a larger scale:

In addition, past guests thanked MPH for sharing her platform with them:

This morning, being the first day after her announcement, her MSNBC colleagues Joy Reid and Tamron Hall covering the Democratic South Carolina primary, during what part of MPH’s time slot. A move that has angered some, “suggesting they weren’t showing loyalty to Harris-Perry,” the Washington Post noted.

But MPH herself dismissed those critiques and showed her colleagues some major love:

And Hall wasn’t quiet either, she clapped all the way back at her haters:

While it’s unclear what MPH’s future is at the network, CNN reported that her return is “unlikely” despite her having 6 months left on her contract. Time will only tell.
