Mariah Carey will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that Carey will get the 2,556th star on Aug. 5. Guest speakers will include directors Lee Daniels and Brett Ratner, as well as Epic Records CEO and longtime Carey collaborator L.A. Reid.

Carey is one of the most successful acts in music. She has 18 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sold millions of albums and won a number of awards, including five Grammys.

She recently launched a residency in Las Vegas where she performs her No. 1 hits, including “Vision of Love,” ”Hero” and “We Belong Together.”

When the new got out, fans all over the world started tweeting.  Here are a few:

  • A real superstar is getting her star unlike some other lesser people.

  • WOW this is FINALLY happening … im glad MC has come to her senses & agreed to this long overdue accolade. Whatever one might think about the reasons behind the scenes or the celebrity names chosen every year, the Hollywood Walk Of Fame has come to represent 2 important things: a special place FOR THE FANS to come fun visit or as a memorial/ tribute spot for a deceased VIP public figure, a place that is recognized the world over. Although nothing will top her over-the-top reception in Las Vegas, LA will come thru for Mariah, a much deserved & globally famous superstar.

As long as Fatburger is in business, the fans will always have a place to memorialize Mariah.

    It’s about time!!

  • I’m SOO happy that Mariah is getting one this year after been here for 25 year.

I have nothing against these tourist stars. If the money goes appropriately back into the community.

The money goes to the chamber of commerce and is used to maintain the walk of fame.

YAYYY I thought she got it in 2007.But Im SOOO excited. Its been overdue.Congratulations Mariah.

Exactly i thought she would of had 1 20 years ago

I wish these things were positioned honestly. She’s not receiving a star, she BOUGHT a star (or her label did or someone did). Those things cost, like, $30,000. It’s a fact – look it up. Talk about a waste of money.

Maybe that’s hey Madonna refused hers.

She could have bought it back in 2007 when she got approved. She has canceled the ceremony couple of times since then. It’s a way for this committee to make a quick coins for making people believe that a celebrity needs this for their career. I bet Packer is paying for it.

He’s right, folks. But MAN did they go up in price–they were just $15K about 15-20 years ago. Well NUTS to inflation!
