The family of Sandra Bland has taken matters into their own hands regarding the 28-year-old’s alleged suicide in a Texas jail cell.

According to NBC News, Attorney Cannon Lambert says Sandra Bland’s family ordered the independent autopsy last week. Lambert added the family doesn’t believe the Hempstead Police Department’s account of events that led to her death.

Police say Bland was arrested for allegedly kicking a police officer during a traffic arrest. After being held in a jail cell over the weekend, authorities claim Bland took her own life by hanging herself with a trash bag.

Bland, a native of Naperville, Illinois, was honored with a candlelight vigil on Sunday.

The family expects to have the autopsy results in the next 48 to 72 hours.
