(Washington, DC)  –  The DC Council has passed a resolution to open an investigation into Marion Barry’s questionable hiring of his then-girlfriend to a contract postion.

Attorney Robert Bennett will head up the independent investigation.  Council member Barry faces allegations that he gave Donna Watts-Brighthaupt a city contract, but the woman did not do any work.

Barry did not support the resolution, and said he was not responsible for the allegations gaining any attention.  He blamed the U.S. Park Police for what he says was an “inappropriate” arrest July 4th after Watts-Brighthaupt accused Barry of stalking her.  The charge was dropped by prosecutors.
