(Washington, DC)  —  DC Mayor Vincent Gray has ordered a spending freeze on contractual services, supplies and other areas not related to salaries.  The move comes because the District must legally have a balanced budget by the end of the fiscal year, which is September 30th and currently it is about 70-million-dollars over-budget.  A source from the mayor’s office tells “The Examiner” that spending on key services will continue, but the order requires agencies to send spending requests for specific items to the mayor’s office for approval.
