(Washington, DC)  —  The District’s Ward Three Councilwoman, Mary Cheh and several other women were arrested last evening while protesting for DC rights on Capitol Hill.  Cheh was part of a rally organized by DC Vote focusing on a bill passed by the House that would permanently impose a federal ban on using DC taxpayer dollars to fund abortions.  Cheh feels that she and her colleagues must do everything they can to oppose the bill.

While the measure was expected to clear the Republican-controlled House, it faces a different fate in the Senate and the threat of a presidential veto.  Cheh is the latest of several DC officials to be arrested in protests against federal oversight of the District.  Last month, DC Mayor Vince Gray was arrested in a similar demonstration.
