VIA WJLA:

A woman matching the description of a serial bank robber has been taken into custody outside a bank robbery in Chantilly, Fairfax County police said Tuesday.

Officer Don Godhardt, a police spokesperson, says investigators had numerous banks in the Centreville and Chantilly area under surveillance because of the recent string of bank robberies.

Investigators spotted a woman matching the bank robber’s description walking into the Apple Federal Credit Union in the 3900 block of Centreville Road in Chantilly about 11:57 a.m., Godhardt said. When the woman exited the bank, officers grabbed her for questioning. Police then learned the bank had just been robbed.

Officers also arrested a man in a car who was spotted leaving the scene after the robbery, police said. He’s been questioned.

Investigators have linked three recent bank robberies in Fairfax County to one female robber: the BB&T Bank on Westfields Blvd. in Centreville last Tuesday, and a Northwest Federal Credit Union in Chantilly and an Apple Federal Credit Union in Centreville. Police plan to question the woman taken into custody Tuesday about those heists.

The woman has not been identified and no charges have been announced.
