(Washington, DC)  — The woman who was struck by a Red Line train at the Rhode Island Avenue station was apparently trying to kill herself .  According to a preliminary report, the woman intentionally placed herself in the path of the train and was conscious and breathing when emergency workers pulled her from the track bed and transported her to an area trauma center.  Over the past couple of years, Metro has dealt with a number of suicides on the rail system.  The “Examiner” reports that in 2009 at least nine people took their lives, there were five suicides last year and one this year.  On March 3rd, a man put himself in front of a train at the Rockville station and he remains hospitalized.
