Despite the economic climate giving in the United Methodist Church continues to rise.  United Methodist News Service says fifteen of the denomination’s 59 U.S. regional and missionary conferences paid 100 percent of the money asked of them to support the denomination’s ministries around the world.  The total collected was just over $157-million which was almost $28-million short of the amount budgeted.  Giving to the United Methodist relief effort in Haiti following the earthquake that hit January 2010 accounted for the greatest share of the increase.
