(Washington, DC)  —  Pepco says the utility has been preparing for this latest round of winter since Sunday.  According to spokesman Clay Anderson, Pepco is making some changes in the way it handles this icy storm, compared to the last round of winter weather.  The utility says it will have three staging areas for the crews instead of two and they will already have 500 mutual assistance crew members on hand.  Anderson tells the “Washington Post” that if and when the ice-related outages happen, there will be more personnel and resources on the ground.  One of the major criticisms Pepco received in response to the last storm was waiting until after it hit last Wednesday to call for out-of-state assistance.  Pepco also says it is trying to increase its communications outreach by being “faster” and “clearer” with messages and information for customers.
