On Friday, November 5, 2010, Oprah Winfrey aired a show dedicated to men who have been molested. On the show, writer/director, Tyler Perry joined Oprah and an audience of 200 men who were victims of molestation.

The show opened with the 200 men standing holding a picture of themselves at the age that they were first molested. For some, this would be the first time that they would share their stories. As you can imagine, the stories of the abuse are graphic and horrific. The tales of how their innocence was lost is heartbreaking. No one should have to endure ANY abuse, especially not an innocent child.

Although this show was dedicated to men, women have suffered as well. I beg of each of you, take this opportunity to really connect with those who you love, your friends, your mates, your children, your significant others, etc. Reach out to them and let them know that you are there for them. Open the line of communication regarding this topic and others, and provide them with a non judgmental, safe place where they can share their encounter. Offer them the trust, confidentiality, support, love and friendship that they need and deserve. Don’t try to have all the answers, because sometimes you won’t. But provide them with what you do have and that is LOVE.

If you or someone you know has been abused, the following link offers information on available resources:  http://www.oprah.com/packages/sexual-abuse-resource-center.html

My prayer is that this will begin to open the lines of communication that will foster genuine relationships and offer the support that will set individuals free.

Please note, I don’t want to appear to be insensitive. I can honestly say that I don’t know the severity of this type of pain. But I can say that I know a God that heals. May you find comfort in the loving arms of Jesus and in the word of God.  I leave you with this scripture:

The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.  Those who know your name trust in you,

for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. (Psalm 9:9-10; New Living)

May the love of God surround you!

God Bless,

Judi
