It was just a couple of months ago when I was finally able to interview Annie Simons for Women’s History Month about her place in history. I attempted to interview her for Black History Month but was
postponed due to what I now know was ongoing health issues. I finally got her to consent to a telephone interview for Women’s History Month to discuss her history as a Civil Rights Activist, the first Black woman officer with the U.S. Park Police, an educator, minister, and so much more. I am so honored to have had the opportunity to document her legacy for other women and young girls to be inspired by. Less than 2 months after that moment, Annie Simons would lose her fight against breast cancer and suffer no more. She was a mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. To me, she was family. She knew me since before I was born, and saved my life by helping me as a young girl work to grow past depression and a suicide attempt. Annie Simons was a prayer warrior and faithful believer of Christ and the work of the Cross. She was once part of The Soul Factory and Community of Hope church families before starting her own evangelistic ministries, helping many.
