Rolling Thunder

Today is a monumental day in D.C. (and emotional, for some) because it’s Rolling Thunder’s last ride, ending a 32-year tradition! The Memorial Day weekend tradition brought thousands of bikers together to ride in support of veterans, prisoners of war and service members missing in action. The Washington Post reports that this year will be the last due to waning attendance, falling revenue, and frustration over security demands at the Pentagon.

The event’s organizers did everything in their power, including thinking of other locations and ways to keep attendance and revenue up. Unfortunately, expenses were still greater than revenue so they decided it made better business sense to end the ride and give those funds directly to the veterans.
