In a Suburb of The Nation’s Capital, right across the bridge in the state of Virginia is a community called Arlington.

Arlington, Va. had a High School named “Washington-Lee High School.”  The school was named after first U.S. President George Washington and Confederate General and Virginia native Robert E. Lee.  Lee was a rebel and a traitor, and some didn’t think that his past represented what this country stands for.

When the influx of name changing and statues being taken down of People from all walks of life that were not considered favorable to American history, people began to examine the name of Washington-Lee in that sense.

So a movement was started to rename the school.  There were several recommendations, but 2 stood out.  One was to name it Washington-Loving High School.  That name was recommended for a Virginia Couple that fought Virginia’s Ban on Interracial Marriage.

Two votes in the taken in the School Board.  First to use the name “Loving” but it failed 2-3, and then the Board voted to use “Liberty” and it passed.

So the new name of the School is “Washington-Liberty High School.”

GOOD FOR THEM!!!!
