Exactly 40 years to the exact date, the Washington Bullets won the NBA Championship on the floor in Seattle.  Since that date, the Washington Washington Football Team have won three Super Bowls, but the Washington Capitals have never won a championship.

Last night after being up 3 games to 1 in the best of 7, the Capitals went into Las Vegas riding the Championship wave with one thing in their way – the time clock.

At the final bell, the Caps had fought a hard battle and came out ahead 4-3 to close out the best of seven series.

Fans in Las Vegas as well as a huge gathering in downtown D.C. equaling more than 50,000 people lost their minds at the final bell.

Alex Ovechkin put both hands to his head and screamed while he left the bench and skated into the thick of the Washington Capitals’ joyous celebration., and in a gesture of complete disbelief!

You can believe it, Ovi. So can the Washington fans whose championship drought is finally over.
