You’re feeling depressed. What have you been eating?

Psychiatrists and therapists don’t often ask people this important question. It turns out that growing body of research shows that a healthy diet can prevent depression. And an unhealthy diet – high in processed and refined foods – increases the risk for the disease in everyone, including children and teens.

In the study, people who mainly ate fried food, processed meat, high-fat dairy products, and sweetened desserts had a 58 percent higher risk of depression than those who ate “whole” foods, such as fish and vegetables.

So a solution? Skip the over processed food. It is healthier for you in every area of your life.
