As of midnight on Friday, January 19, 2018, the government shutdown due to disagreements on a spending bill. Senate Democrats are taking a stand by refusing to vote on funding the government until President Trump agrees to resolve the expiring Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Republicans refuse to discuss DACA until Democrats give them enough votes to reopen the government.

Unfortunately, what that means is on Monday morning, federal employees will be furloughed and the fate of deportation for over 700,000 immigrants is still up in the air. Meanwhile, the President is focused on building a border wall.

You may remember the government shutdown back in October 2013 that lasted 17 days. Hopefully both sides of the aisle can come together, resolve all these pressing issues, reopen the government and put money back into the pockets of hard-working federal employees.
