Adult/Young Adult Topic: SPEAK THE TRUTH ANYWAY

Printed Text: Ezekiel 3:1-11

Key Verses: Ezekiel 3:10-11 (NIV)

And he said to me, “Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart all the words I speak to you. Go now to your people in exile and speak to them, Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says,’ whether they listen or fail to listen’.”

UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

Discouragement and doubt can be hindrances to what we hope to achieve. What concrete action can help us get beyond our fears? Ezekiel’s call involved eating a scroll that sweetened the bitter taste of his mission, receiving from God extra strength and protection for the challenges that lay ahead.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

The name “Ezekiel” means “God makes strong.”

Contrary to popular opinion, God’s messengers need not be weak and anemic. A man or woman of God needs the intestinal fortitude to stand strong in the face of opposition when the position purported is unpopular and opposed by a cultural majority.

The one who accepts the assignment of prophet is ultimately able to be effective in prophetic assignments and endeavors because greater is He who is in the prophet than he who is in the world.

PRAYER:

Oh LORD, grant us the courage to face the obstacles of fear, insecurity, cultural objection, and any other hindrance that might prevent obedience to your call and effectiveness in your divine assignment for our lives. Take us with all our imperfections and use us to your glory to make a difference in the world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
