John Singleton is an award-winning producer whose legendary movies include “Poetic Justice,” “Boyz In The Hood,” “Hustle & Flow,” and many, many more. He chats with Erica Campbell and GRIFF about his new drama series, “Snowfall,” on FX, which premieres on July 5th. Erica and John talks about being firsthand witnesses to the devastating affects crack cocaine had on black communities in L.A. before moving on to the rest of the country. He talks about looking at the crack epidemic as a war, saying “Crack is the only thing that ever made black women leave their children.”

John also talks about being deliberate about the choice to show the paradise that black neighborhoods in L.A. were before the crack epidemic hit, versus after.
