UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

People sometimes view their circumstances as a hindrance to being effective leaders. How do they deal with their doubts? Gideon voiced his doubts and requested a miraculous sign.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

One of the tasks of the Christian is to find a way to strike a healthy balance between believing everything God says without question and totally walking by blind faith on one hand, and second guessing the obvious on the other hand. It is vitally important for spiritual leaders to make sure that they are following God so that the people who are following the leaders will be headed in the right direction.

PRAYER:

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come—you are our shelter from a stormy blast and our eternal home. Lord, help us to trust you even when we cannot trace your hand. Help us to be the sheep that are so familiar with the Shepherd’s voice that we will have no doubt when you speak to us. Lead us in your path of righteousness, and we will follow until we die. Help us to trust that whatever we do not understand now, we will understand it better by and by. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

BIBLE FACT:

Is it ever appropriate to ask God for a sign? Isaiah 7:11 provides what can be considered an answer. “Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.” (Isaiah 7:11)
