UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

Many search in all the wrong places for a perfect love in which to put their trust. Can other humans be trusted to love without blemish at all times? The book of 1 John reminds us that God is love, and that those who abide in love have God’s love perfected in them.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

Many churchgoers today are motivated by emotion rather than being motivated by a commitment to the LORD. We could argue that such places are not churches but feel-good centers. Their focus is not on eternity but on the here and now. They are truly focused on the worldly view of love as one of many human emotions. The concern today is that too many folks who attend church speak of agape but do not live it daily. For those in the world, such hypocrisy has led to a lack of faith and belief in organized religion. Some have gravitated toward designing their own path to God. One of the growing fads is to take the ”best” of all world religions and develop a hybrid belief system. Just practicing agape for a couple hours on Sunday is not what John was referring to when he wrote his first epistle.

PRAYER:

Loving God, we come today to thank you for allowing your Son to die for our sins. We know that you have shown us the highest example of agape possible. We ask now that you empower us daily to live lives transformed by your agape. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
