UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:
Many people reduce their religious obligations to fulfilling a set of legalistic requirements. What are the characteristics of an authentic Christian lifestyle? Paul sharply contrasted a Spirit-filled life with life in the flesh.
We all want to live holy lives, but the problem is that we can’t to define holiness ourselves and then achieve that holy living in and of ourselves. It takes a Christ-like humility to submit to the holiness as defined by God and then allow that completeness to be created by the Holy Spirit and not by ourselves.
We must be willing to stay faithful to the grace of God and the movement of the Holy Spirit within us. It is easy to give in to the temptation to sow to our flesh, to seek to impress other people, or to seek to acquiesce to the expectations of others. However, how Paul closed his teachings to the Galatians is so very true: we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.
Lord, help us not to get tired of doing what is right. We confess to you that we do get tired sometimes, and we are challenged to live by your grace and embrace that righteousness in our lives. Please forgive us when we get so tired that we go astray. By the power of your Holy Spirit, please revive us to stay the course, and renew the proper spirit within us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
