Loving God means doing what He says.

Breakdown:  When I was a child I had to obey a lot of my mother’s rules.  I had to wash dishes, vacuum the floors, clean my room, complete all my homework before hanging out and a million other things she had me do. As I grew older, I realized that the rules my mother put in place not only helped me learn about responsibility, but they also helped to make her day easier. Because I loved her, it was easy for me to do what she asked of me.

In scripture, Jesus tells us that if we love Him, then we should obey his instructions.  The Old Testament was written mainly in Hebrew and the New Testament mainly in Greek and Aramaic.  Looking at “obey” in those languages will offer you a little more insight into the meaning of the word.  In this case, the Greek word of command is “entole”; which means, “to instruct, order, or require”.  So, Jesus is saying that if we love Him, we will do it simply because He has said and because we do love Him.

Live It Out:  Today, be mindful of God’s laws and commandments (what is right and what is wrong) and focus on doing what God says, not what you or friends believe to be right.Today, focus on every action and obey Him with your life because Love is obedience.

Prayer:  Lord, today help me to identify the ways I can obey you at all costs.  God let me please you today with my obedience of your commandments and your laws.  In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
