Federal authorities have given an approximate count of the number protesters arrested on Inauguration Day — 230; and Prosecutors say that they will be charged with Felony rioting.

A few of those arrested have already made their first court appearance in the D.C. Superior Court.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office say that felony rioting is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.   They said most of those arrested were released without having to post bail and must return to court in February.

A lawyer representing over 50 of the protesters say they were arrested for just being present, even though they were not participating in any destruction.
